This just a taste

Windmills (and the Quixote's 400th birthday)
      Calculus, measuring and predicting change
Food plants of the Sonoran desert

This just a taste
      of the world's wonders
            complexities of governance.

Who owns these mountains,
      that desert? Neither
the jack rabbit nor the jaguar.

Powerless but grateful.
      The planes descend
discharging us to snow or saguaro.

When the hedgehog cactus attacked
Zach's leg and he grabbed it with his naked hand
there was that day a howling in the wilderness.

As commission chair, I have missed
      every deadline, failed to lead
my town against the state and corporate turbines.

Ethnobotany
      agriculture
            genetic engineering

What are your feelings about power?
       If you were president
            what would your program be?
